ROTHBURY - Cragside

Cragside a Victorian house designed by Norman Shaw situated in 900 acres built by industrialist Lord Armstrong as a home and a place to test his engineering theories, hence the house was the first in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity. It is now a showcase of Victorian art architecture and technology.

Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle has been in the Percy family since1309 and is the home of the Duke of Northumberland. Open from April to October it is in the centre of the town with fine gardens landscaped by Capability Brown, have a pre visit at   www.alnwickcastle.com 

Hadrian's Roman Wall

The wall from Newcastle to Carlisle, coast to coast across the British Isles is the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain.
It is the best known frontier in the entire Roman Empire and stands as a reminder of past glories of one of the world's greatest civilisations.

Old hunting lodge of the Duke of Northumberland dating to the early 18th Century located at the head of Kielder Water, which now houses the Kielder Visitors Centre with exhibition on the Forest and it’s wildlife.

TOWER KNOWE VISITOR CENTRE

Located at the foot of Kielder Water by the dam, from where a ferry cruise with commentary can be started stopping of at the Leapish Waterside Park.

OTTERBURN MILL

Visit this historic Border Woollen Mill as you travel north or south over the Border through Carter Bar. Take refreshments at the Coffee Shop before inspecting the Mills produce in the Mill Shop and Visitors Centre which still displays the original water driven machinery,.
